Leather goods & Leather furniture re-dyeing
Leather re-dyeing is a pretty strait forward activity. There are basically two kinds of leather finish. Topical (water repelling) , and aniline (water absorbing).
Topical leather dyes (or finishes) are typically water based
(acrylic) while aniline dyes are solvent based. While a topically
dyed leather finish will repel water the aniline (solvent based)
dyed leathers are easily stained and scratched. They are very
similar to a piece of wood that has been stained but never
varnished.
Aniline dyed furniture (leather) is subject to sun fading, staining, and marring. In high use house holds (or situations) the delicate nature of the aniline finish can lead to the rapid soiling of the leather giving either a heavily soiled look, or a scratched look, or both.
Fortunately most all of these problems can be prevented by, but
the majority of people don't know that their furniture can be
re-dyed, and reconditioned. With the information on this site you
are now able to make your furniture look like new and save thousands
on new furniture.
